INFERNAL AFFAIRS (2002)

Most of our film junkies know that ‘The Departed’ which swept away academy awards is pretty good rip off of this Hong Kong film-Infernal Affairs. Scorsese is genius when he copied this film scene to scene because he knew very well that directors had almost done all creativity possible to make Infernal Affairs best slick thriller & adding his own touch just make it lower version in production & creativity is concerned. Anyway, even though I saw The Departed earlier, this film still becomes exciting, chilling, complex& fully gripping one. Infect character detailing of two lead informers are more powerfully presented here. Hats off to Director Duo- Wai Keung Lau & Siu Fai Mak for making modern classic police story. The movie bagged so many awards in film festivals around the globe in best direction, film, actor, screenplay & editing. It definitely deserved Best Foreign Language Film Oscar which it didn’t.
Few info I would love to share-
# The movie was considered as Japanese in 79th Oscar awards & Scorsese corrected it while accepting academy award as best director, which was his first in best direction. An apology letter was posted to original directors the next day.
# William Monahan got best adapted screen play academy award for The Departed. And it is the first & only remake of foreign film to win best picture award.
Now don’t you feel its huge injustice to our Asian film making???
MUST WATCH ‘COZ IT’S TEXTBOOK THRILLER.

Ratings- 9.5/10
